My Little Angel

Karen passed away yesterday morning at about 7:10.  Here is the obituary that will run in the Standard Examiner (paper in Ogden, Utah) tomorrow and Friday.

PLAIN CITY – Angels are born on this Earth everyday. Many of them are taught of this divine heritage. Some of them cultivate their divine gifts. Precious few inspire all those they meet to do so as well. Karen was one of those choice spirits. She was born on September 12, 1981 in Ogden to Kevin and Lucile Lewis. She graduated from Fremont High School and earned her BA in music at Brigham Young University-Idaho, with an emphasis in band. She played the trombone with the New American Symphony, the Junction City Big Band, and with a trombone choir. Karen received her mission call to Richmond, Virginia and was subsequently diagnosed with cancer. Her mission was postponed until her departure from this life on June 23, 2009. Karen married Keith Penrod, and they shared three happy years of marriage in this world and will share many more in the world to come. She taught music to children K-5 at two elementary schools. Karen has gone on to meet three grandparents, an uncle, a sister-in-law, a niece, and many other loved ones.

Karen is survived by her husband, 11 siblings Chad Lewis, Ammi  & Ben Orton, Chris & Amanda Lewis, Tanya & Brent Orton, Kelly & SharaLyn Lewis, Jeffrey & Valerie Lewis, Patrick & Dixie Lewis, Bryan & Kelley Lewis, Robert & Millie Lewis, Rick Lewis, and Sandra Lewis; parents Kevin and Lucile Lewis; mother and father-in-law, David and Emmalou Penrod; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen & Yvonne Penrod, Angela Smith, Scot & Laura Penrod, Marc & Mandalyn Penrod, Alissa & Robert Marsh, and David A. & Emilee Penrod; and grandparents Adele Lewis, Kay and Myrl Pond, Lynn Penrod, and Roberta Allred.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Farr West Stake Center, 2132 West 2700 North in Farr West at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call on Friday, June 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services.

Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.
